EN 161 / EN 16678

EN 161 specifies safety, design, and performance requirements for automatic shut-off and control valves with a specified inlet pressure of up to 5 bar for use with gas burners, gas appliances, and similar applications. EN 161 does not apply to industrial applications.

EN 16678 applies to valves with a specified inlet pressure above 5 bar and up to 63 bar for use with one or more gaseous combustion fuels according to EN 437. It applies to:

• Electrically operated valves, but not to external electric actuators for the actuator.
• Valves with flow regulation controlled by external electrical signals, either in discrete steps or proportional to the applied signal.

It does not apply to valves specifically designed for use in transport and distribution networks.
