SIL

SIL (Safety Integrity Level) measures the level of risk reduction provided by a safety function. It indicates the probability of failure on demand (PFD) for a Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) within a Safety Instrumented System (SIS), based on standards like ANSI/ISA 84, IEC 61508, and IEC 61511. SIL levels range from 1 to 4, with higher levels requiring more reliable risk reduction measures and components to counteract greater risks.
